Universities in the United States and other countries that accept the ACT have of variety of approaches in the consideration of ACT scores. Boston College uses a process known as "superscoring" when assessing its applicants. Superscoring is the practice of considering only the highest sectional ACT scores from all test attempts, which allows students who have taken the ACT multiple times to build their ideal composite score. Other prominent institutions that use superscoring in undergraduate admission include Columbia University, Tufts University, and Bowdoin College. The College of William and Mary is an example of a school that will consider the highest score of multiple ACT attempts, but only in terms of composite scores (applicants cannot combine section scores from distinct ACT administrations). Yale University, on the other hand, requires applicants to report scores from each time they've taken the ACT, and this entire testing history is a factor in admissions decisions. Students preparing for the ACT should know the testing policies of their chosen undergraduate degree programs, which can suggest appropriate direction and structure for ACT study.

Meet a Kuala Lumpur ACT Tutor: Amanda D.
Amanda D., who was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech and a master's degree in computer science from the University of Alabama. Currently an employee of a Kuala Lumpur technology company, she has been teaching ACT prep on a part-time basis since 2006. Her tutoring career began in the Atlanta area, and she has been living in Kuala Lumpur since 2015.
According to her students, Amanda has the strong math and science skills that one would expect, but she is also a highly effective teacher of verbal abilities. "Amanda's ACT teaching improved all of my ACT sectional scores," wrote one student. "She's not just a math nerd – she has exceptional command of ACT reading and English as well." Amanda recently married a professor at one of Kuala Lumpur's universities, and the couple plans to start having children in the near future.
